Welcome back, Ørsted!

Bremerhaven, 31 March 2021 - The German subsidiary of the world market leader for offshore wind Ørsted has rejoined the wind industry association and innovation cluster WAB e.V. after several years of abstinence.

"We are pleased to further strengthen the topics of value creation, innovation and the importance of offshore wind power as a source for the production of 'green' hydrogen together with Ørsted," WAB Managing Director Heike Winkler welcomed the regained member.

"We want to work in partnership to ensure that Germany achieves the climate targets it has set itself," emphasised the new Ørsted Germany Managing Director Jörg Kubitza. "In our strategy of expanding renewable energies and sector coupling by means of 'green' hydrogen, we have a particular focus on northern Germany," said Kubitza.

At WAB, Ørsted will head the new working group "Political Communication Offshore Wind".

Headquartered in Denmark, Ørsted employs around 6,200 people worldwide. The company has already built four offshore wind farms in the German North Sea: Borkum Riffgrund 1 and 2 and Gode Wind 1 and 2. From 2024/25, two more projects will be added - Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Gode Wind 3. All wind farms together will produce enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of 2.6 million German households annually. Ørsted is also active in eight different "green" hydrogen and power-to-X projects in northwest Europe. In Germany, these are the projects "Westküste 100" and "Lingen Green Hydrogen". Ørsted is a laureate of the German Sustainability Award 2021.
