REETEC offers on-demand night-time marking for wind turbines according to the new energy collection legislation

Numerous operators of German onshore and offshore wind turbines will have to equip these with a facility for on-demand night-time marking (German: BNK) of aviation obstacles by mid-2020.

REETEC offers on-demand night-time marking (BNK) solutions according to the new energy collection legislation, which was passed on November 11, 2018. According to this law, wind turbines (WTG) that are required to be furnished with aviation aid systems in accordance with the approval notice must be equipped with on-demand night-time marking from July 1, 2020 – this applies to both newly erected WTG and existing plants.
It is still uncertain which radar and transponder systems will be preferred by aviation authorities in the future. Therefore REETEC has already implemented interfaces to the currently approved radar systems – such as DARK SKY, Parasol and Therma – as well as to two transponder systems still under construction as part of the new and enhanced development of its aviation aid portfolio over the last one and a half years.
Thus, all new REETEC aviation aid systems type RE-LED2 are already prepared for BNK retrofitting – they only have to be equipped with the respective module, which can be "inserted" without any special expertise. Retrofitting is therefore both quick and cost-effective.
By upgrading to the latest control technology with web-based monitoring and a user interface, older REETEC systems (RE-LED 86x) are also suitable for on-demand night-time marking. In addition, REETEC offers complete retrofit solutions for existing plants whose systems cannot be retrofitted.
"We estimate that by mid-2020 more than 15,000 wind turbines in Germany will have to be converted or retrofitted for BNK operation," says Claus Sejersen, Head of Sales and Marketing at REETEC. "To ensure that all WTG meet the new requirements by this deadline, operators concerned are recommended to address the issue now."
